CLEAI
Center for Law, Economics, and Artificial Intelligence

About Us

The Center for Law, Economics, and Artificial Intelligence (CLEAI) is a non-profit, non-partisan research organisation dedicated to addressing the growing challenges posed by emerging technologies, particularly concerning social inequality. We bring together leading academics, policymakers, and industry experts to explore the complex intersections of law, economics, and artificial intelligence. Our multidisciplinary approach recognises that technological advancements, while offering immense potential, have thus far exacerbated existing inequalities, disproportionately impacting vulnerable communities. At CLEAI, we strive to democratise access to knowledge and foster inclusive innovation, ensuring that the benefits of technological progress are equitably distributed across society.

Our Roots and Inspiration

CLEAI was born in the heart of Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, in the UK. The Centre was founded by Ysa Vieira, a passionate LLB student at the School of Law and Politics at Cardiff University pursuing a career as a social scientist. With a deep commitment to research and education, the founder's inspiration for CLEAI emerged from a desire to tackle social inequalities through innovative solutions. By leveraging the intersection of law, economics, and technology, and using data science tools like AI, CLEAI aims to transform complex data into actionable insights. This effort supports decision-making, advances research, and addresses societal challenges, particularly those related to education, discrimination, and inclusion. As a first-generation student and advocate for the neurodiversity community, the founder envisions CLEAI as a bridge to promote equitable access to knowledge and foster an inclusive environment for all.
